Red Bricks in the Pacific Northwest

Red brick architecture works well here. I have been to this city many times, and each time my mind has been in a different phase, so it is no surprise that I never noticed how well the color accents the landscape.

Down in California we have quite a number of homes built in the style of Julia Morgan, with redwood colored everything, the idea being to design buildings to fit with their surroundings, and I have never found her designs all that attractive.

Here in Seattle, it is a different story, the surroundings are filled with vibrant greens and blues, and, while many homes in the area do come in subdued shades of those colors, there are many wonderful brick constructions that offset the landscape perfectly, making the what would be a simple commercial district into a firm statement of, “we are here, come wind, rain, or sea.”
