Last night I left work at 11pm and caught a train to the city. Once I got home, I cleaned a bit, read some email, noticed my power supply was at work and felt the pain of being tied to public transportation that was now unavailable while having a flight that left before stores opened. I showered, I grabbed a beer with Kevin, I cleaned some more, I did some laundry, I got in a cab, I got on a plane. Five hours later, welcome to New York.

Turns out JFK is much too large for me to have been able to make my connection flight, poor planning on my part, so I had to reschedule my flight from 4:20 to 9:30, which gave me about four hours, I needed to find a power supply. “Who,” I thought, “who lives in New York who could help me with this?”

Amit Gupta.

Amit Gupta is the man. Let me repeat that, Amit Gupta is the man. I SMS’d Amit, with a frantic plea for power, moments later I was met with directions to the Apple store in Soho. A few trains and about an hour later I was weaving my way through the mean streets of New York, minutes away from purchasing a small white box from a girl in a black shirt. And it was good.

It is raining in New York tonight, apparently it has been rainy here for a week or so, and it is a beautifully romantic sight. Narrow streets with large, worn out holes in asphalt filled with water, barely covering the brickwork beneath; a city with a history and a style all its own. People in scarfs and long coats with umbrellas, every woman wearing heeled boots, every guy wearing jeans. Subways with once-white tile and the names of 6 different streets at every stop. It was a satisfying 20 minutes of walking to the Apple store and back.

I’m writing this on the floor next to my gate at the airport, the wifi claims to allow T-Mobile subscribers to sign in yet isn’t letting me, luckily I am flying Lufthansa and should be receiving free internet in flight. Internet is good. Power is good. I just bought a beer from a man with a Brooklyn accent while an 80 year old man referred to his wife as “my woman.” Soon I will be in Germany and then I will be in the Netherlands. Were that one girl here, I would kiss her out of the sheer beauty of the moment. But she’s not, so I’m kissing you.

This morning (well, a few minutes ago and I haven’t quite made it to sleep yet), I got a comment out of the blue on one of my old posts Kiss More. I originally wrote the post because my power blogger friend (who wasn’t yet my friend) had mentioned that he would link to anybody who wrote a post about kissing right that moment. I wrote one, he linked to it, history, blah blah blah.

Point is, I just got a comment on it and in explaining how odd it was to get a comment on a post that old to a coworker, I read the post and realized I had accomplished all of my kissing goals. There were three, kiss a girl with a tongue piercing, kiss a girl with a lip piercing and kiss a girl in the snow. Turns out all of those got snagged by a single girl (although there’s a girl named Anwen that I was once standing next to in Utah while it was snowing whom I really really really wanted to kiss, but didn’t quite make it. We actually kissed fairly recently and she’s just the damn coolest but she lives really far away and you know how those things go), and her name is Cheryl. Hi Cheryl, I’m going to talk about you for a paragraph.

Cheryl is a girl I met in Vancouver, which interestingly enough is where the guy who requested the kissing posts lives. We met on LiveJournal, the most hip trendy place ever, and our first date was to go see Napoleon Dynamite. It was good, we stayed until the end and watched him tame a wild stallion. She was awesome, we went out to a few places, talked about stuff, she was an interesting person. Well, turns out she had her tongue pierced, her lip pierced and we kissed while it was snowing in Vancouver (I was actually broke and asked her to take me me out to dinner and we went to a place called Gyoza King were yoda stared at her) after I knocked her down into a slightly too shallow bank of snow — it’s okay, she’s tough.

I know, I know, kissing and telling, but Cheryl’s cool, she’ll understand.

It’s amazing that people don’t talk about this more often, this is really an all-the-time subject if you ask me.

My first kiss wasn’t really the most amazing thing, I was 14, she was 14, but in all honesty, I wasn’t really very attracted to this girl. We kissed, she tried to get her tongue into my mouth. I stopped kissing.

Things have really picked up since then, however, and I eventually found girls whose tongues I do enjoy. I’ve experienced quite a few styles and techniques, and I really think people should be more liberal with spreading their love.

So, my suggestion to all of you, make a kissing todo list. Think of some kisses that you always wanted to try out, and write them down somewhere, even if only online, and see if you can’t experience something new.

Still on my kissing todo list:
* Kiss somebody with a tongue piercing. I’m not really sure what to expect, and I probably won’t be as impressed as I feel like I will be, but I still intend on trying it out and having a good time in the process.
* Kiss somebody with a lip piercing. This one doesn’t seem so out there in my mind, but I haven’t ever done it and there is no good reason not to.
* Kissing somebody while it is snowing. Oddly enough I have never gotten to do this, but it seems romantic in that cheesy movie sort of way while still being sexy in that “we won’t need a heater” sort of way.
